The Indian Air Force is set to display its firepower in Exercise Vayu Shakti, right near the Pakistan border, with live weapon demos featuring Rafale, Su-30MKI, LCA, and Mirage fighters on February 27
The Indian Air Force will conduct a major firepower exercise called Exercise Vayu Shakti at the Pokaran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district on February 27, showcasing its operational capabilities through live armament firing during Exercise Vayushakti, defence sources exclusively told CNN-News18.
Held very close to the Pakistan border, the event will host guests from around 40 countries, who will witness live manoeuvres and the IAF’s capabilities that played a decisive role during
Operation Sindoor in 2025, when Pakistani bases were neutralised, enemy fighters destroyed, and Pakistan was compelled to seek a ceasefire.
Fighter jets will be tasked with striking a range of simulated enemy targets—including operation rooms, bunkers and bridges—as part of the exercise, which will be held at the Air Force’s Chandan Field Firing Range near Pokaran. Frontline fighter aircraft including the Su-30MKI, Rafale, LCA, and Mirage are set to participate, providing a live demonstration of advanced weapon system engagements and the IAF’s combat prowess.
A full dress rehearsal is scheduled for February 24.
IAF units from across the country will participate, executing various missions such as Defensive Counter Air, Offensive Counter Air, Counter Air Strike and Suppression of Enemy Air Defence. Operations will be coordinated from an airborne war room using AWACS aircraft, with precision weapon delivery, transport support and special ops integrated into the exercise.
IAF goes gender-forward
For the first time in recent years, women officers and pilots will take part in Vayu Shakti‑2026. They will participate in both combat and support operations, including flying light and medium fighter jets, coordinating airborne surveillance, and executing mission-critical tasks alongside male counterparts.
The IAF said their involvement demonstrates a commitment to gender inclusivity while ensuring operational readiness in frontline exercises.
