Neha Dhupia, who tied the knot with Angad Bedi in 2018, had her first child six months after her marriage
Neha Dhupia recently spoke about the criticism women face if they get pregnant before marriage. The actress, who tied the knot with Angad Bedi in 2018, had her first child six months after her marriage.
The MTV Roadies host recalled how she was continuously questioned about getting pregnant before marriage. “I married Angad (Bedi), and after six months we welcomed our daughter [Mehr]. But the biggest conversation around our wedding was, ‘How did the baby come in six months? Ye ho kaise gaya?’” Neha told Mid-Day.
“Even now, I see stories and tags on female actors who get pregnant before marriage. I feel, at least, I’m on the same list as Neena Gupta and Alia Bhatt. But honestly, this is ridiculous,” she added.
Neha called motherhood ‘beautiful’ and shared that the continuous backlash and criticism led to the creation of the Freedom to Feed platform, which supports candid discussions about motherhood.
“We need to normalise discussions around women’s health instead of treating them as taboo. (I wanted) to spread awareness, break myths, and remind women they are not alone in this journey. These subjects should not be swept under the rug. If I’m being trolled for talking about things that affect half the population, then so be it. I’m not going to stop,” said Neha.
On the professional front, Neha Dhupia will be next seen in Kunal Kemmu starrer Single Papa, which marks the OTT debut of filmmaker Shashank Khaitan, known for helming Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and Dhadak.
The filmmaker’s next project Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, will release on 2nd October and will clash with Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Part 1.
