A multi-agency task force, comprising the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army’s elite CIF Delta unit (part of the White Knight Corps), and the CRPF, launched a targeted counter-terror operation in the Jophar Forest area of Basantgarh
Two Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were killed in an encounter by the Indian Army on Wednesday. The terrorists were spotted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur yesterday.
The army carried out a precision strike where they blasted a cave entrance, which was used as a hideout, located in Udhampur’s Basantgarh area. The strike killed two JeM terrorists, one of whom was a top commander from Pakistan.
The operation was launched on Tuesday (February 3) after the army received intel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police about the presence of the militants in the area. The operation was codenamed ‘Kiya’.
How was the op conducted?
A multi-agency task force, comprising the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army’s elite CIF Delta unit (part of the White Knight Corps), and the CRPF, launched a targeted counter-terror operation in the Jophar Forest area of Basantgarh.
To locate the insurgents, security forces deployed specialised sniffer dogs equipped with mounted cameras to scout the dense terrain. The operation remained active throughout the night, marked by rounds of intermittent gunfire.
Security forces launched rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) rounds to blast open the mouth of the cave and kill both the terrorists in the process. M4 rifles, AK-47s, and large quantities of ammunition were recovered from the hideout.
“Contact with terrorists was established yesterday and since then, terrorists were prevented from breaking contact. Following a calibrated and coordinated response, two terrorists have been successfully neutralised. The operation highlighted seamless inter-agency coordination, tactical precision and high standards of professionalism,” White Knight Corps said in a post.
