Director Suneel Darshan, best known for films Jaanwar and Ek Rishtaa, has revealed in an interview with Vickey Lalwani how Akshay Kumar had to quit his 2005 film Barsaat opposite Priyanka Chopra and was replaced by Bobby Deol later.
The filmmaker revealed, “One beautiful song was shot between Akshay and Priyanka before they broke off… When it was time to get back for the final schedule, during which the entire movie had to be made, I was called by Akshay to his set.”
He added, “Seldom was I called to his sets, so I was surprised. He informed me that there were some issues that were uncontrollable, and there were some repercussions on his personal life. He requested me to take a decision on how to move further. I can’t remember the exact words, but it was about having either him or Priyanka in the movie.”
Darshan also revealed, “It’s not about him not wanting to work with Priyanka Chopra. Circumstances had reached a point… The public, the media did mention a relationship, which the wife got to know of. But suddenly, after making me wait for 18 months, to say that I can’t be a part of the film, I was shocked… He did want to compensate by saying he’d do the next film with me, but I just thought it was unbelievable, coming from Akshay.”
On Deepika Padukone’s 8-hour shift demand
The producer should first take from her in writing that for the 8 hours she is on the set, she will be giving shots. Instead of 8 if she even gives shots for 4 hours, the producer will touch her feet in gratitude,” Suneel told IANS.
Calling Deepika’s demand ‘unreal’, he added, “I believe one should work only with those people who love your film more than you.”
He reminded the Fighter actress that nobody is irreplaceable and shared, “There was a time when Deepika was not a part of the industry. You will be able to find several new talents.”
