A Pakistani woman has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that her husband abandoned her after their 2020 marriage and is now preparing to remarry in Delhi
A Pakistani woman, identified as Nikita Nagdev, has appealed for help from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after alleging that her husband, Vikram Nagdev, abandoned her soon after their 2020 wedding and is now planning a second marriage in Delhi, reported News18.
In a video message, she claimed that Vikram, a Pakistani-origin man residing in Indore on a long-term visa, compelled her to return to Karachi and has since refused her re-entry into India.
She alleged mental and emotional abuse, saying she discovered that Vikram was having an affair almost immediately after she moved into his family home in India. Nikita stated that only after filing complaints did mediation begin, during which she learnt that Vikram was preparing for another wedding in Delhi. The Sindhi Panch Mediation and Legal Counsel Centre recommended that he be deported to Pakistan on jurisdictional grounds, a recommendation now under local investigation.
Timeline of allegations and ongoing proceedings
Nikita stated that she married Vikram on January 26, 2020, in Karachi following Hindu customs. She said that he brought her to India a month later on February 26. According to her account, her circumstances changed abruptly, and, on July 9, 2020, she was forced back to Pakistan and left at the Attari border on the grounds of a “visa technicality”. She alleged that Vikram made no effort to facilitate her return despite her repeated requests.
She claimed that the behaviour of her in-laws changed after the wedding and that she discovered her husband’s affair with a relative. When she approached her father-in-law, she was allegedly told, “Boys have affairs; nothing can be done.” She further alleged that during the Covid-19 lockdown, Vikram pressured her to return to Pakistan and later refused to allow her back into India.
Nikita said she learnt that Vikram was preparing to marry another woman from Delhi while still being legally married to her. Distressed by these developments, she filed a written complaint on January 27, 2025. In her video message she stated, “If justice is not served today, women will lose faith in justice. Every woman deserves justice in India.”
The case is currently being handled by the Sindhi Panch Mediation and Legal Counsel Centre, authorised by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Notices were issued to Vikram and his alleged fiancée, and a hearing was held, but mediation did not succeed.
