Several routes will remain closed or face heavy restrictions, prompting commuters to plan their travel in advance.
Delhi Police taking to X shared the advisory, informing residents about the route diversion, restricted zones and alternate routes in place ahead of Republic Day.
Why traffic rules are imposed
Several restrictions have been made as the nation witnesses one of the most significant events, marked by a ceremonial parade at Kartavya Path in the presence of top leaders and dignitaries and various spectators.
To ensure smooth functioning, the city police has imposed certain advisory to be implemented across central and adjoining parts of Delhi.
According to the advisory, vehicular movement will be regulated from the early hours of January 26, with several arterial roads either partially or completely closed.
Diversion of routes
To prevent any inappropriate activity and traffic congestion, limited or no vehicular movement on Kartavya Path and surrounding roads have been implemented.
Heavy vehicle movement is likely to be restricted during morning hours.
Parking restrictions near parade routes and security zones
People attending the event and other commuters are advised to follow the guidelines issued by Delhi Police. There has been vehicular restriction in Delhi as no HTV/MGV/LGV (except essential services) will be allowed to enter Delhi from 9 PM on January 25, 2026 until the Republic Day parade ends.
Entry of commercial vehicles into Delhi from Faridabad will remain prohibited during this period.
Metro rail services will start from 3 AM and continue at all stations.
Taking to X Delhi Police said, “In view of Republic Day 2026 celebrations on January 26, certain traffic restrictions will be effective in Delhi. Commuters are requested to avoid the mentioned routes and plan their journey accordingly.”
